Return for a Greatest Hits Tour ... too much fun!

The VILLAGE PEOPLE are a name synonymous with good fun, great memories, and true showmanship. Formed in Greenwich Village, New York in 1977, The VILLAGE PEOPLE became hugely popular thanks to a number of disco inspired mega-hits... ‘Macho Man’, ‘In The Navy’ ‘Go West’ and the dance floor anthem ‘YMCA’. Since their inception they have always sported ‘fantasy jobs’ such as The Cop, The Native American, The Soldier, The Biker, The Construction Worker and The Cowboy, becoming immediate and recognisable pop culture icons and appealing to fans everywhere!

In 1980 the VILLAGE PEOPLE starred in their own feature film You Can’t Stop The Music which spawned an Australian No.1 single with the title track. The movie is now considered a cult classic. Along the way they became MARDI GRAS and MACHO MAN heroes and an outfit synonymous with being happy, carefree and ready to rage!

Live is where the VILLAGE PEOPLE experience really comes into its own. These six talented men combine energetic choreography with outrageous fun in a party atmosphere. Audience participation is mandatory – fans can’t help getting into the nostalgic trip down disco memory lane ... and just see if your limbs alphabet when you hear ‘YMCA’! Or try not to flex your muscles during ‘MACHO MAN’!

Conceived by French producer and ‘MACHO MANJacques Morali way back in the 70’s, the VILLAGE PEOPLE quickly evolved from a studio concept to a global phenomenon in the space of a few years. The first public configuration of the VILLAGE PEOPLEincluded Victor Willis, Felipe Rose, and Alexander Briley, plus four dancers who represented different archetypes of the gay club and MARDI GRAS scene in New York’s Greenwich Village. Further honing his concept, Morali replaced the anonymous dancers with David Hodo, Randy Jones, and Glenn Hughes, and unveiled a revamped VILLAGE PEOPLE line-up on the Macho Man album (1978).

Alexander Briley (The GI) illuminates the current philosophy of the VILLAGE PEOPLE: “It’s fabulous! We’re not only gay icons, we’re icons for a decade.. The only difference is that children of the fans from the Seventies are coming to see us now!.”

The VILLAGE PEOPLE are: Ray Simpson (Cop & lead singer), Alexander Briley (Soldier), Felipe Rose (Native American), Eric Anzalone (Biker), Bill Whitefield (Construction Worker) and Jim Newman (Cowboy)

Catch the VILLAGE PEOPLE live in Australia in February. Be sure to dress up as your favourite VILLAGE PEOPLE member or perhaps your finest MARDI GRAS ensemble? Or maybe you just ‘gotta be a Macho Man’ and boogie down to the ‘YMCA’ before experiencing one helluva fine show from the renowned VILLAGE PEOPLE.
